Affordable White Burgundy: Loichet's Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Sur Gamay" 2010

Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Sur Gamay" 2010, Sylvain Loichet

True Burgundian Chardonnays from the Cote d'Or don't have to be pricey and unattainable if you know where to look for them. Case in point - the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru《Sur Gamay》2010 by the talented Sylvain Loichet. Admittedly, the prices for all his recent vintages have also soared like the rest of Burgundy but at least they are still not crazy expensive (for now). This is a parcel that neighbours the more famous《Murgers des Dents de Chien》&《En Remilly》of Saint-Aubin, just above the village of "Gamay" (please don't confuse this with the grape variety Gamay tho):

"Bright deep lemon yellow core; ripe citrus, vanilla cream, warm spices, light tones of oak, lightly toasted fresh pineapple on the nose; quite similar on the palate, a little sappy but utterly delicious with some braised Chinese dried scallops and sea cucumber. Med+ acid, med to med+ finish. Could live for another decade or more if its redox potential holds but absolutely #glouglou now and will please even the picky #Chardonnay lovers." MT, 12 July 2021.
